Summer has arrived in Beirut. It's not the 30-degree temperatures that told me so, but rather the Persian carpets hanging over balconies - a sign that households have reverted to cold tile flooring in preparation for the sizzling months ahead. It does look rather festive to have all these carpets dangling over the roads, but unfortunately they'll only hang there long enough to be scrubbed down and dried out.
